STYLE TIPS:
HOW TO DESIGN LIVING ROOMS IN SMALL SPACES_
STYLE TIPS June 2020
Have you found yourself a new love for DIY projects around the house since quarantine, scrolling endlessly down Pinterest looking for the right inspiration for your home? During this new interior blog series, our talented team of designers are here to give our expert advice to bring your Pinterest board to life. Designing for small space has always been a hot topic amongst designers and for those who are also non-designers, we have shared 3 tips on how to design living rooms in small spaces.
“Showcase your pop of colour through large upholstery items or even paint a wall in a vibrant
Farrow and Ball paint.”
UTILISE OPEN PLACE LIVING
Despite open plan spaces being multifunctional large areas, the space is quite often visually reduced once you’ve divided the kitchen, dining room and living room through a zoning technique. Positioning the sofa away from the rest of the room, as seen in our WI II show home living area, creates a separate environment for your living area without the walls. Decorate the room as one despite it being zoned, bringing the room together more cohesively.
SAY YES TO BOLD COLOURS
Often people avoid bold colours in small spaces due to the fear of it being too overpowering. Our Grand Union II luxury show home is the perfect example why we should use bold colours in small spaces. The fluid electric blue is far from overwhelming but more inviting juxtaposed against a textured wall. Showcase your pop of colour through large upholstery items or even paint a wall in a vibrant Farrow and Ball paint. Brighten the space back up with contrasting light colours and textures in cushions and accessories.
CREATE A FUNCTIONAL FOCAL POINT
No matter what size, storage is needed in every home. The award-winning Lyons Place apartment, features a creative shelving unit in the living room. Its unique shape and brass detailing generates a focal point in the room, something that can be easily incorporated into small spaces whilst contributing a practical aspect.
