IN CONVERSATION WITH:
DESIGN DIRECTOR,
RHIAN BARKER_
AT HOME WITH A.LONDON April 2020
Our talented team on interior designers each have their own personality when it comes to creating A.LONDON’s luxury interior designs. We caught up with Senior Interior Designer, Lauren Colquhoun, to discuss her admiration of interiors and what projects we can be expecting from her soon. Lauren’s eclectic style can be seen throughout the A.LONDON portfolio, including Landmark Place and the award-winning show home, Lyons Place.
What is your best kept interior design secret?
Look to the past. Nothing is new these days, but simply a reinvention of something from years gone by. Researching past decades, cult classic movies and fashion photography can spark such nostalgic inspiration for colour palettes, silhouettes and bold patterns. Mixing old with new is the real key to achieving a curated space with bundles of personality. Each room should have one piece you feel really passionate about, even if it’s not to everyone’s taste.

Where is the first place you will be going to once lockdown is over?
A local restaurant with my best friends – I miss them terribly. Both within and outside of our projects I am always looking to support local businesses, so I’ll be keen to revisit some old haunts. Living in Tooting, Tooting Broadway Market will likely be my first stop. I am also looking forward to booking in physical client meetings again at our Marylebone studio, and securing a spot down the road at Chiltern Firehouse to finalise projects over a spot of lunch.
What was the last song you listened to on Spotify?
Right now, it is mostly nursery rhymes with the little one, or AGC’s Lockdown Beats: Home Office Stereo playlist which has proven perfect to listen to whilst working away.
What do you do for your hourly exercise?
You’ll find me by the fridge… or relaxing in the garden. I’ve yet to join our virtual morning workout sessions with the rest of the A.LONDON team which have been hosted by some handpicked, professional instructors exclusively for us. The team are really getting into it.
What TV series are you currently watching?
ORTHODOX on Netflix, it’s really gripping.
Do you have any advice to help balance your work from home life and normal life whilst quarantined?
Find a little time every day for some reflection and peace. Whether that’s through meditation, drawing, jigsaws or getting up early for that first cup of coffee. Just take a moment for you to centre and set your intention. If you follow us on our social platforms, you’ll be hearing about some exciting LIVE talks with the team and industry experts, insightful, hands-on collaborative workshops and workout sessions to keep you all motivated during this time. If you don’t follow us, definitely do to avoid missing out on those!
