After a long period of virtual events, our team were so excited to be able to attend in person, one of the biggest dates in the design calendar, London Design Week! We sat down with our Senior Interior Designer, Harriet, who gave us an insight into the shows and events she visited and the all-important interior inspiration she took away with her.

Can you tell us what Design Week is?
London’s Design Week is an event for the creative design community to come together and showcase new and exciting collections, collaborations, and projects. In addition, it is a great opportunity for us to network with new suppliers, catch up with existing ones, and be inspired by new trends.
What was the most inspiring thing you saw there?
As an advocate for sustainability, I was left most inspired by an event with Pierre Frey and Alison Reupke – ‘Sustainability at Pierre Frey and in the furnishing fabric industry’. This was a talk that I attended that educated us as listeners about the fabric industry and the effects it has on the environment. As we move towards becoming a more sustainable company at Accouter Group of Companies, the talk was very informative and inspiring. They highlighted the importance of knowing where and how your fabrics are made and encouraged us to use recycled materials as much as possible.
What was your favourite event and why?
My favourite event was the Porta Romana x Kit Kemp discussion. Porta Romana’s Creative Director, Andrew Hills and Founder and Creative Director of Firmdale Hotels and the Kit Kemp Design Studio. Kit Kemp, held an inspiring talk all about Kits designs in London and America. Her use of colour and her ability to pair contrasting patterns together so seamlessly is something I admire. She made in great point that you can’t please everyone so as long as you please one, that’s enough.
What did you take away from Design Week 2021?
This year’s Design Week was the first opportunity in a while for many to rekindle relationships with colleagues, friends, and suppliers. It showed the importance of making the effort to go out, hear about the newest trends and collections and be inspired by one another. Designing is so much more enjoyable when you’re bouncing ideas off each other and the buzz that design week bought to London was inspiring. I will be heading to the harbour more, having meetings with suppliers and making sure I attend as many events as I can!
